Marie Bauman of Troy, PA, specializes in custom made lampshades, lettering and artwork.
She graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1975 with a degree in commercial art. Marie worked as a graphic artist for 14 years at American Silk Label in Troy. In 1988 she started making lampshades to express a creative way to utilize her art degree. In 1990, Marie began displaying her shades at craft shows and festivals. She has won four Best of Show awards at the Troy Fair home arts exhibit and was featured in the Mountain Home Magazine in August of 2008.
Types of lampshades produced by the artist include:
Cut and pierced designs on paper,which can be painted on the inside or outside
Botanical using real leaves, ferns, and flowers
Fabric covered shades utilizing a variety of material
Handmade Paper imbedded with flowers and ferns
Transferred art, which is a form of decoupage
Custom – designed with customer input to design such things as recreating a farm scene, or matching room decor.
Several patterns, a variety of frames and ring sizes, and many colors of grosgrain trim are available to complete the customers desired lampshade.
